I chose English because I really enjoyed it at school and was keen to explore the subject further. The breadth of the Cambridge course appealed to me, as I wasn’t sure which areas I preferred. I also liked the style of teaching, with its focus on supervisions (small group classes). I’ve really loved my course on the whole. It’s been a lot of hard work, but I’ve enjoyed working out what my interests are and getting to explore those in dissertations, especially in my final year.
I love how much outdoor space Jesus has, and its location – you’re relatively close to the centre of town, but once you’re in College it feels like your own little bit of Cambridge. The facilities at Jesus are also fantastic. I found having the sports pitches a stone’s throw from my room in first year really helpful and encouraging in getting involved with College sport. We’re also really close to the boathouses on the river Cam, which is great when you’re part of the rowing club.
My favourite part of college is the people! I’ve made some incredible friends since being here and everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. (I’m pretty fond of the horse in First Court too). My favourite Cambridge experience was the summer of my first year, with a visit to the Globe as part of Shakespeare term, the May Ball, and all sorts of end of year celebrations.
