Careers and Mentoring

At Jesus, we put employability and careers at the forefront of the College experience.

What we offer

Sarah and Clelia make up the Careers Team. We support students to become graduates that are well prepared for the workplace, strongly focusing on helping them to develop the key skills that employers want to see. We showcase the full range of career options available, from the first days in College through to graduation and beyond.

We offer:

  • Exclusive access to Jesus Connect, our dedicated careers and mentoring platform
  • Regular ‘In the Business of’ events where we invite external speakers from a range of industries and sectors to the College
  • Skills-based clinics and networking events
  • Entrepreneurship clinics
  • A termly Careers and Mentoring newsletter and events termcard
  • Signposting to the Careers support available at both College and University level.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about our Careers and Mentoring programme.

Jesus Connect, our Careers and Mentoring platform

All Jesus College students are invited to join Jesus Connect, our online Careers and Mentoring platform. You can request your invitation link by emailing us.

On Jesus Connect, you can connect with other students and our diverse alumni community – find out more on our case studies page. You can also access posts providing advice for specific sectors, groups focusing on particular career interests, invitation to events, application links to internships, and work experience opportunities.

Mentoring

You can use Jesus Connect to connect with mentors from across the alumni community.

Why take part?

As a mentee, you will benefit from a space in which you can really think about your career and personal goals, and create an action plan for achieving realistic goals in manageable steps that you can work towards between meetings.

  • You will be encouraged and challenged to consider issues and come up with your own options for how to move forward in ways that you might not otherwise have time or space to focus upon.
  • Mentorship will provide you with the opportunity to consider and review the options for your future, and to focus on your career development.
  • Being mentored is a great way to expand your professional network, creating valuable contacts with alumni within the College's community.

Mentor matching service

We offer a mentor matching service for all Jesus Students. Whilst we absolutely encourage you to make your own connections using Jesus Connect, if you would like us to suggest some possible mentors for you, and/or to approach potential mentors on your behalf,  please fill in the webform here outlining what you are looking for in a mentor and what you are hoping to get out of mentoring and we can do the rest.

Jesus College has all the benefits of being large, historical and prestigious college, whilst also retaining fantastic welfare: the staff and other students all care about each other, and will be there to cheer you on when you are thriving, but also there to support you if you need any help. I chose Jesus due to several reasons, including its prime location, where it is very central, and easy to access everywhere, even if you work in one of the institutes further out. I also selected Jesus for its MCR...

Jesus College has been at the heart of my Cambridge experience. I chose the College because I was impressed by its distinctive blend of academic rigour and extracurricular achievement. A College for all-rounders, Jesus is a lively and rewarding place to study. I couldn’t be happier here! Friendly and engaged, the Jesus postgraduate community never ceases to impress me. At ease with themselves and forever curious, my peers go out of their way to cultivate a sense of camaraderie. After a day of leafing through old manuscripts at the National...

It is a well-accepted opinion in Cambridge that Jesus College is the best college and no other college even comes a distant second. Its sports grounds are enormous, its buildings are mesmerising, its libraries are rich, its chapel is the oldest, its accommodation is the best value for money, its international community is diverse, its religious circles are the most welcoming, and its members are the smartest, kindest and the friendliest. It is one of the central colleges that aims to offer three years accommodation to postgraduates, and has comparatively...

When applying to Cambridge colleges it can feel a bit overwhelming as there are so many to choose from. I applied to Jesus College because it has a large MCR which was important for me because I wanted to feel part of a community. Now that I’m doing my PhD here, I’m very glad I did choose a college with a large postgraduate community. Throughout the year there are lots of postgraduate events, including formal dinners, special formals at Christmas and Easter, bops in the bar and film nights in...

What first attracted me to Jesus College was its reputation and history, central location without being touristy, and the postgraduate housing options. When I arrived at Jesus I was so pleased to find the partner accommodation was spacious, affordable, and situated very close to the college, allowing us to really take advantage of the facilities. We especially enjoyed The Roost, the nicest of all the college bars, doubling as a café during the day - ideal for studying or meeting up with groups - and a lively pub in the...
