Taster days go virtual

Over 700 Year 12 pupils from across the UK had the chance to meet and learn from students on a wide range of undergraduate courses during our online taster sessions series.

Part of our ongoing outreach and widening participation work, the virtual taster sessions were run weekly throughout the summer, offering taster lectures and presentations in eleven different subjects. Jesus College takes students to study all of the academic subjects offered at the University of Cambridge.

Students found the taster sessions “highly engaging, interactive, and interesting,” and praised the way in which the sessions highlighted the breadth and variety within courses at Cambridge. Feedback showed a 25% in those extremely likely to apply to their course at Cambridge or Oxford after the sessions, with a 45% increase in those likely to apply to highly selective universities.

“I found the session to be highly engaging, interactive, and interesting.”

Katie Mountford, our Schools Liaison Officer, said: "It’s been brilliant to see so many talented students beginning to explore what their favourite subject might look like at university level. I’m really grateful to the student ambassadors for leading such fascinating and interactive sessions, and for sharing their journeys to Cambridge with potential future undergraduates."

We're committed to encouraging the best students from all schools and backgrounds to apply to Cambridge and other highly selective universities. We run a range of events for students, teachers, and schools throughout the year, including open days and school visits. Find out about upcoming open days in our teachers and schools section.
