West Court award win and shortlisting

Our new development, West Court, has scooped an award at this year’s Cambridge Design and Construction Awards and been shortlisted for another regional award.

The win in the Conservation, Alteration or Extension of an Existing Building category is testamant to the high standards of design by Niall McLaughlin Architects.

Co-sponsored by Cambridge City Council, Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry and Cambridge News, the annual awards celebrate buildings which are judged to have best met the criteria of excellent design appropriate to its context, good quality workmanship and materials, and sustainability.  West Court also garnered a very well deserved commendation in the Craftsmanship Award for Cocksedge and Niall McLaughlin Architects. We are delighted that West Court has been recognised.

West Court has also been shortlisted for this year’s RIBA East (Royal Institute of British Architects) regional awards. Shortlisted buildings will be assessed by a regional jury in April, with the winners announced at the end of May.  Regional award winners go on to be considered for a RIBA National Award, with the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for best building of the year drawn from those national award winners.

The development is the largest addition to the historic Jesus College site in modern times. West Court includes the180 seat Frankopan Hall, Laura Case medical teaching suite, guest and conference accommodation, a café bar, research space and student social areas - benefitting our students, academics and alumni. The development was officially opened by His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex in October 2017.
