Imaging in four dimensions

On 8th April, as part of the Cambridge Festival 2022, Dr Tiffany Harte led a turn-based game to help build up an intuitive understanding of quasicrystalline materials.

Participants worked in small teams to solve puzzles which explored ideas related to crystal tilings, forbidden crystal symmetries, and higher-dimensional mappings onto quasicrystal structures. Through a presentation at the start of the session, and throughout the game between turns, the physics concepts were explained and clues were given to tackle the next stage of the puzzle.
