This event is an opportunity for all Jesus College Students to talk to Jesus Alumni from a range of sectors for a few minutes at a time. A chance to learn valuable networking skills, make new contacts and find out more about the range of careers and roles available.

The event will start with tea, coffee and biscuits and a welcome from the Master followed by an optional one hour interactive workshop - Networking - How do I do it successfully? with Jesus Alumna, Lene Hansen (1996) Lene is a professional skills consultant with a focus on early career development.

Lene Hansen (1996)

Lene is an ex-regulator, litigator, consultant and COO who has lived in four countries and worked in over 20. During this time, she became aware of the critical need for practical training by experienced practitioners early in people's careers. This belief led to the founding of The Glass Ceiling Project in 2017. 

This consultancy aims to create confident and competent employees who drive strong company outcomes through comprehensive training (Skillpods programme), bespoke coaching and mentoring. Lene has degrees in Psychology, Criminology and Law and has competed successfully as a Cambridge Blue and international rower. Her book on life and crime 'Where's The Harm?' was published in 2023.

Lydia Lee (2002) 

Lydia holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Cambridge, where she also attained an MSci degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry). Her doctoral thesis title was "Studies towards a total synthesis of the aplyronines as promising anticancer agents". Lydia held positions at Astex Pharmaceuticals and Domainex, specialising in medicinal chemistry and early-stage drug development research. Lydia has extensive experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research and scientific consulting. Lydia founded Oxbridge Gateway Limited in 2020, an educational consultancy which specialises in personal coaching programmes to inspire and mentor individuals to succeed in their higher education and career development. Lydia is now completing her MBA degree at the University of London where she is part of the Careers Service Feedback Panel, and a careers mentor at the Royal Society of Chemistry. Lydia is also a member of the Chartered Management Institute and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Estelle Wing (2019)

Estelle joined the Generalist Fast Stream (Civil Service) in October 2022, having just graduated from Jesus in July. Her first rotation was in the Department of Health, working on Adult Social Care reforms. She is starting a rotation to the Economic and Domestic Affairs Secretariat (EDS), a unit in Cabinet Office that works on delivering the Prime Minister's top domestic priorities, in October.

Jon Tippell (2003) 

Jon is the Director of Redkite, the UK’s leading data consultancy, which he set up in 2018 with fellow Director Henry Crawford.  Redkite encompasses a team of 350 data professionals, and partners with high-potential, customer-led enterprise and hypergrowth organisations to help them to achieve their strategic business objectives with data.  These business objectives include performance management (better, faster, simpler decision-making), personalised experiences for customers, industry 4.0 (more efficient operations through the supply chain) and sustainability (reductions in Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions).  Clients include Diageo, Mondelez, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Primark, The White Company, Kingfisher, The Guardian, The Economist, ITV, and Flutter Entertainment. Redkite’s work spans the United Kingdom, United States and Europe, and capabilities encompass business strategy, data product management, data strategy, data architecture, analytics, data engineering, operating model design, data governance and communications. Previous to Redkite, Jon was a Principal with Oliver Wyman, where he worked for eight years, following internships with Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank. He holds a First Class Masters in Computer Science and in Management from the Jesus College, Cambridge, where he was awarded Scholarships and was the recipient of the Carruthers Prize.

Cathy Adams (1984) 

After leaving Cambridge Cathy qualified as a solicitor at a law firm in London. She took a year out to do an LLM in international law before joining the Government Legal Service on the European Fast Stream.  After a couple of years Cathy moved to the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office where she spent most of her civil service career as a legal adviser. During her time in the FCDO Cathy had overseas postings to the UK Representation to the EU in Brussels and UK Mission to the UN in New York and spent three years as international law adviser to the Attorney General.  Cathy became Legal Director in FCDO in 2012 then, after the Brexit referendum, Legal Director at the Department for Exiting the EU.  She worked on EU exit issues for six years, including as part of the UK negotiating team for the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Cathy’s current job is Legal Adviser (International) in the House of Lords Committee Office. In this role she advises Select Committees on public international law and treaties.  Cathy was awarded a CMG for services to international law and foreign policy in the 2020 New Year’s Honours. 

Molly Lewis (2013)

Molly is an associate in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP’s commercial dispute resolution group, having qualified in March 2020. Molly has experience of advising clients across a range of business sectors, including corporates, financial institutions, professional services firms and pro bono clients, in relation to litigation, international arbitration and regulatory proceedings. Molly is also the co-chair of the firm’s Social Mobility Network and a trustee of social mobility charity, PRIME. In 2022, she won the Rising Star Gold Award at the UK Social Mobility Awards.  

Paige Yallop (2017)

Paige works full-time in Insurance Consulting and is studying IFoA (Institute and Faculty of Actuaries) professional exams to become a qualified actuary. Her employer is Milliman LLP, a global consultancy firm with a UK base in the City of London.  Actuaries use statistics to analyse risk and assess financial consequences. In the general insurance industry this includes helping ensure premiums are set at a profitable rate and verifying that insurers have enough money set aside in reserves to pay claims as they fall due.  Typical tasks include data processing, building models in spreadsheets and specialist software, making assumption selections, liaising with clients, drafting reports, training new graduates, and assisting with business development work including networking events.  Paige secured her graduate actuarial job at WTW through a summer internship whilst studying Natural Sciences at Jesus College, and spent 2 years there before moving to her current role.  Alongside her actuarial work, Paige creates social media content documenting her young professional life, through which she aims to provide study motivation and improve access/transparency to top universities and careers. Whilst she still views content creation as a hobby, Paige earns advertising revenue through her social media channels and has collaborated with many brands including Starbucks, Cadbury, Dell, UCAS and the Department for Education.

Laura Mansfield (1989)

Laura read Modern and Medieval Languages at Jesus, focusing on French and Spanish and spent her year abroad teaching English in Costa Rica. After graduating, she moved to Manchester to work at the BBC before moving into the independent sector and then co-founding independent TV production company Outline in 1999.  Laura has developed and executive produced a broad range of programmes, delivering hundreds of hours of high quality series. Credits include food and travel series Remarkable Places to Eat for BBC2 & C4, Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country, House of Tiny Tearaways (BBC 3 and TLC USA ), Born On The Same Day (Channel 4) and Guinness World Records Smashed (Sky1).

Laura was elected to Pact Council (Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television) and served as the trade association’s chair from 2015 to 2017. During this time she represented the interests of the UK TV and Film industry, representing some 450 production companies. She has been a leading advocate for public service television, and a champion for improving diversity. Laura regularly acts as mentor, and is a frequent public speaker, chairing awards juries and industry panels in the UK and abroad. She has recently been appointed Non-Exec director of Elstree Film Studios. Laura began her TV career at BBC Manchester on Youth and Entertainment series Reportage and The Travel Show. She was a producer on entertainment shows including Eurotrash, Clive James on TV, Murray Walker’s Top Ten and Angus Deayton’s End of the Year Show working with stars from Michael Schumacher and Jeremy Clarkson to The Spice Girls, Kermit and Miss Piggy!
