Virtual seminar

John Moffett (Librarian, East Asian History of Science Library, Needham Research Institute) will deliver a lecture on Joseph and Dorothy Needham's engagement with China. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session.

Dr Joseph Needham’s long engagement with China from the 1940’s to the 1980’s played an important role in Sino-British non-governmental relations. Less well-known is the contribution of Dr Dorothy Moyle Needham. This talk introduces the on-going work at the Needham Research Institute to digitise and make available through the Cambridge University Digital Library photographs, diaries, notebooks and other documents relating to the Needhams’ visits to China during this period.

John Moffett is a graduate of the Department of Chinese at the University of Edinburgh. He has been Librarian at the East Asian History of Science Library, Needham Research Institute since August 1992.

This is one of the events in the on-going China Forum Seminar series, hosted by the China Forum, Jesus College. The seminars, given by eminent speakers, cover a broad range of topics and disciplines.
