The upheavals and violence of the 20th century resulted in displacements and dislocations on an almost unimaginable scale.

In this lecture, Professor Sheila Fitzpatrick, distinguished historian of modern Russia and of migration, will discuss the displacement of things and people across the former Soviet Union and its sphere of influence, within and beyond its borders.

Author of many books on Russia’s 20th century, Fitzpatrick is currently working on a monograph on Displacement: Repatriation and Resettlement of Russian and Soviet Displaced Persons after the Second World War. This public lecture will be followed on 18 November by a multidisciplinary workshop on the same theme.
