Sir Stephen Irwin appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal

We are delighted to announce that Stephen Irwin (1972) has been appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal.

Sir Stephen has been a Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, since May 2006. He served as a Presiding Judge for the Northern Circuit between 2008 and 2012. He was appointed a member of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission in 2012 and served as its Chairman and as Chairman of the Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission and the Pathogens Access Appeal Commission between January 2013 and December 2015.

In the Court of Appeal, he joins fellow Jesuans Sir Rupert Jackson (1967) who was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal  in 2008, and Sir Colman Treacy (1967) appointed in 2012 who is also Chairman of the Sentencing Council.
