Lord Mair recognised by NAE for his contributions to engineering

Professor Lord Robert Mair is one of 18 foreign members selected to join the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 2019. 

An Emeritus Fellow and former Master of Jesus College, Lord Mair has been recognised for his “contributions to underground construction and smart infrastructure and for leadership in government, engineering practice, research, and education”. The new members will be inducted on 6 October during the Academy’s Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

Founded in 1964, NAE has more than 2,000 peer-elected members and foreign members, senior professionals in business, academia, and government, who are among the world’s most accomplished engineers. They provide the leadership and expertise for numerous projects focused on the relationships between engineering, technology, and quality of life.

Lord Mair is Professor of Geotechnical Engineering and Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cambridge. In addition to his many University duties, he leads an active research group, lectures extensively around the world, and is consultant to a number of public authorities. He currently advises the Singapore Government on design and construction aspects of all their underground metro and road tunnels.
