Professor Young came to Jesus as an undergraduate, studying for a BA in Engineering (1970-1973) and then returning to complete a PhD (1975-1978).

His research interests lie in the area of spoken language systems, including speech recognition, speech synthesis and dialogue management.

He said: "Around the world millions of people are now routinely interacting with machines using speech and natural language.

"Cambridge University has been a leader in this technology and I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of the many colleagues and students who have worked with me over the years and collectively contributed to its solution."

We congratulate Prof Young on his achievement!
