Maurice Solomons, Cadet, Officer Cadet Battalion

Maurice Solomons was educated at Owen’s School in Islington and won a scholarship to come to Cambridge in December 1914.

Born: Canonbury, London on 15 August 1897

Died of appendicitis in a military hospital: 16 July 1916

He entered College in 1915 with the intention of reading for the Natural Sciences Tripos. When he came into residence he immediately joined the Cambridge University Officer Training Corps and left in March 1916 hoping for a commission. He joined the Officer Cadet Battalion in June 1916 (Jesus College Cambridge Society Annual Report, 1917, p37).

Although not killed on active service, Solomons was one of the youngest Jesuans to die in the war as he was not yet 19 years of age. He is buried in Willesden Jewish Cemetery, London.
