External engagement

The China Centre engages in high-level academic, government and corporate meetings and events, focusing on China in the World.

  • Professor Peter Nolan gave a speech and participated in panel discussions at the Silk Road Forum, Paris, December 2018, organised by the Development Research Centre of the State Council of China and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
  • Dr Jin Zhang participated, as a member of the delegation of think tanks from European and American countries, in a visit to China between 19-26 November 2018.  The delegation visited Guangzhou, Zhuhai Henqin, Hangzhou and Beijing and interacted with Chinese think tanks such as Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, Pangol, Chingshi and D&G Think, Chinese companies such as Gree and Alibaba, and central and local government officials on high-quality development in China.
  • Professor Peter Nolan had a meeting with Zhou Xiaochuan, former Governor of People’s Bank of China and Vice Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia, Beijing, October 2018.
  • Professor Peter Nolan had a meeting with Zhang Xiaoqiang, former Vice Minister, National Development & Reform Commission and joint Executive Vice Chairman, China Center for International Economic Exchanges, Beijing, October 2018.
  • Professor Peter Nolan and Dr Jin Zhang participated in a meeting between a UK delegation and the Chinese President Xi Jinping, Beijing, October 2018.  Professor Peter Nolan and Mr Mark Tucker (Chairman, HSBC) were invited to ask questions of President Xi.
  • Professor Peter Nolan gave a speech and participated in panel discussions at the China Development Forum, Beijing, March 2018.
  • The Vice Chancellor, Professor Stephen Toope, Professor Peter Nolan and Dr Jin Zhang had a meeting with Vice President Zhang Laiming of the Development Research Centre of the State Council of China, during the China Development Forum, Beijing, March 2018.
  • Professor Peter Nolan had a meeting with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, January 2018.
