I have had a wonderful first year singing in Jesus College Choir. The choir’s friendly atmosphere is the antithesis of preconceptions of Cambridge choirs as competitive and hostile. I have made some of my closest friends in the choir and I look forward to seeing them at each rehearsal and service. Having never sung chapel music before coming to Cambridge, I was nervous about how easily I would settle in and yet both the Director of Music and other, more experienced choir members guided me through my first weeks until I felt more than comfortable.

Highlights from my first year in the choir have to be singing Handel’s Messiah at the Barbican and going on tour to Exeter and singing in the Cathedral there. I also enjoy the college dinners that the choir attend as they are an opportunity to make music, get to know each other better, and eat yummy food!
