Having been a Chapel secretary for nearly three years, I can now look back on that experience as one of the highlights of my undergraduate life. I've been able to serve the Chapel community in really practical ways, mostly lighting candles before services, operating lights and sound, reading from the Bible during evensongs, and stewarding for larger services. Much of this has helped me in my own walk of faith, and even when we're on duty, the Chapel still provides a great space for prayer and contemplation.
The Chapel is also a very special place for me as a History student, owing to its rich heritage. It's been wonderful to join a community that has been serving Benedictine nuns, and then Cambridge scholars, as far back as the twelfth century. Then as now, the Chapel has always been a centre of community; I've loved getting to know the rest of the Chapel team, both on duty and at various dinners and socials, as well as members of the wider College community who find themselves drawn to Chapel for particular events.
