Awards and prizes
Peter Wright is a graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge where he was Organ Scholar (1973-1977). From there he went to Guildford Cathedral as Sub-Organist before becoming Organist and Director of Music at Southwark Cathedral (1989-2019) where he is still an Honorary Lay Canon. After retiring from Southwark he was appointed Interim Director of Music at Ripon Cathedral for 14 months during an interregnum.
Much in demand as an organ recitalist and choral conductor, both in the UK and abroad, Peter enjoys a wide and varied repertoire.
He was President of the Royal College of Organists from 2005-2008 and is now a Vice-President and Trustee. He is also a Trustee of the Nicholas Danby Trust, the George Thalben-Ball Memorial Trust, and Chairman of the Incorporated Society of Organists Benevolent Fund.
