Dr Hjördis Becker-Lindenthal
Hjördis Becker-Lindenthal is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow and Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity and a Postdoctoral Associate at Jesus College, Cambridge.
Academic interests
Hjördis is fascinated with the thought of the nineteenth century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard and with medieval vernacular mysticism alike. In her current research project she combines both, investigating Kierkegaard’s reception of Rheno-Flemish mysticism, particularly Johannes Tauler’s sermons.
Hjördis is also interested in the philosophical and theological aspects of the current Anthropocene discourse. Together with Dr Simone Kotva, she teaches the MPhil course Facing the Environmental Future: Theology in the Anthropocene.

Biography
After Hjördis obtained her Master’s degree, she worked as language teacher in Hong Kong and as financial analyst for an international real estate bank in Germany. She then became a Research and Teaching Assistant (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin) at the Department of Philosophy, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel. In 2014, she completed her doctorate in Philosophy with a monograph on Kierkegaard in the context of Young Hegelianism, analysing Kierkegaard’s concept of repetition and the emergence of a performative philosophy out of the 19th century’s cultural and metaphysical crisis.
Hjördis took up her current appointment at the Faculty of Divinity in September 2018. Before, she was Research Associate to the Norris-Hulse Professor Sarah Coakley, also at the Faculty of Divinity.
Other interests
Open water swimming, dance, Danish literature.
