Dr Miles Stopher

Academic interests

Dr Stopher's research interests include the design of nanostructured materials for applications in extreme environments, from quantum mechanics to thermokinetics, radiation damage modelling, hydrogen embrittlement, and the engineering and safety of integral and passive small modular nuclear reactors. He lectures Nuclear Materials within the Part III Materials Science Tripos and MPhil in Nuclear Energy. 


A former Jesus PhD graduate, Dr Miles Stopher is now a research associate in the Department of Engineering. Prior to his arrival at Cambridge, he worked for Rolls Royce on the design of the Royal Navy’s Successor Class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines.

Other interests

Playing football and cricket for Jesus College, and performing music.
