Dr Marie-Christine Clemente

Teaching Bye-Fellow
Department of French Studies
20th and 21st century French literature and culture

Academic interests

Marie-Christine Clemente specializes in 20th and 21st century French literature and culture, with a particular focus on questions of memory and autobiography. She is the author of articles and chapters on the literary representation of the 9/11 attacks and edited the collective work ‘Le Coeur dans tous ses états...’ published by Peter Lang in 2012.

Her current research project – ‘Looking for ‘je’: Between Reality and Fiction’ analyses the position of the self when real and imaginary worlds overlap. Focusing on autofiction texts by Bauby, Beigbeder and Nothomb to determine how imagination helps shape the limits of ‘je’, the study also includes accounts of schizophrenia and dementia (Duras, De Vigan and Ernaux) to further explore the blur between the real and the virtual.
