Dr Cassi Henderson
Cassi Henderson is a Research Associate in the Complex Additive Materials group at the Institute for Manufacturing, with a research interest in affordable and accessible medical devices.
Academic interests
Cassi’s research interest is in the design and development of innovative solutions for the manufacture of affordable medical technology, and her work combines the areas of mechanical engineering, material science and design to achieve this goal.
Degrees obtained
- BS in Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, 2013.
- MPhil in Bioscience Enterprise, University of Cambridge, 2014.
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, University of Cambridge, 2019.
Biography
Cassi Henderson completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge as a joint student of the Analytical Biotechnology group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and the Fluids in Advanced Manufacturing group, under the supervision of Dr Lisa Hall and Dr Ronan Daly. Her work focused on the integration of functional materials, assay development and manufacturing design to enable biosensors to be produced for affordable, rapid, and point-of-care detection of diseases.
Prior to starting her PhD, Cassi received her BSE in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a Masters in Bioscience Enterprise at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the commercialization of early stage medical technologies. She also has previous industrial experience in product design and innovation consulting for a range of technologies centred on healthcare.
Other interests
Cycling, racquet sports, cooking.
