Anthony Bowen is the former Orator of the University and an Emeritus Fellow in Classics at Jesus College.

Academic interests

Anthony Bowen's academic interests include:

  • Greek and Latin languages, including their pronunciation
  • Greek tragedy, including its performance.

  • PhD, Cantab.

Other interests

Books, wine, travel, music, politics. He served for eight years on each of Shropshire and Cambridgeshire County Councils. In 1983 he stood for Parliament in Shropshire.

Editor of Aeschylus Supplices and Choephori, of Plutarch Malice of Herodotus, and of Xenophon Symposium. Translator of Lactantius Divine Institutes. Editor also of school classical texts.
