George Miller Brown, Lieutenant 12th (Prince of Wales) Royal Lancers
George Miller Brown came to Jesus College in October 1907 from Michaelhouse School in Pietermaritzburg and following his brother Matthew Hugh Brown (1905). He took his BA in 1910.

Brown was, by all accounts, an accomplished sportsman, who played rugby, lacrosse and cricket. He played in the Rugby XV where initially he and his fellow forwards came in for some criticism. The 1908 Annual Report claims that the forwards were too light but “worked hard” though “Wheeling seemed to be an unknown art, and they were none too clever on their feet.” (Jesus College Cambridge Society Annual Report 1908, p28).
In fact, it appears that rugby in College was a little in the doldrums during three years Brown was playing. The Annual Reports from 1908 to 1911 all complain that were unable to get their best team together. In the 1909-10 season it was “the inability of certain members to appear regularly, notably in the back division” (Jesus College Cambridge Society Annual Report 1909, p34). In the following season they were hampered by injuries and still considered to be too light but were praised for being “very good” (Jesus College Cambridge Society Annual Report 1910, p35).
Brown fell in action in November 1917 after several years at the front.
