Mr Gopal Subraminum is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and the former Solicitor General of India.

Mr Subramanium has appeared as a lead counsel in a number of landmark cases in India. These included some high-profile political and commercial matters as well as cases that had a strong bearing on social justice in India. He was a member of the Justice Verma Commission which contributed to amendments to laws in India relating to crimes against women.

He is a visiting professor at the Delhi University and became a Foundation Fellow at Somerville College, University of Oxford in 2019. 

His lecture on “The Shifting Meanings of the Rule of Law and Judicial Independence in the Indian democracy” was followed by questions moderated by Dr Saumya Saxena (Jesus) with Dr Shruti Kapila (Corpus Christi) as discussant.
