"I am currently a Medical Affairs Lead at AstraZeneca, working in Haematology and Emergency Medicine. I graduated in Biotechnology with Industrial Placement in Blood-Brain Barrier pharmacology from King's College London. I moved into cancer research at the University of Cambridge Department of Oncology, Hutchison/MRC Research Centre as a research assistant looking at “Communication between cell cycle regulation and differentiation in the development of the CNS". This led to my Medical Research Council (MRC) funded PhD Research studentship at the University of Cambridge's Human embryonic stem cell research group on “Molecular determinants of cell lineage differentiation in human embryonic stem cells.” My career started during my degree in nursing as a healthcare assistant but after seeing the impact of medicines on healthcare, I chose to work in the pharmaceutical industry working at GSK, Allergan, Alexion and now AstraZeneca across increasing levels of responsibility in clinical safety, medical information, scientific and medical affairs where I developed specific expertise in dermatology, gastrointestinal disease (immunology), ophthalmology, acute care, and haematology. I now lead on medical strategy and resource development across the therapy area working with doctors, pharmacists, nurses, scientists as well as regulatory, marketing and sales to deliver better care for patients through national practice change initiatives."
