Chapel services, events, and hire
Members of Jesus College and the general public are warmly invited to join both our Sunday and weekday services.
Sunday services are held during term time at the following times:
10am – Choral Eucharist (sung by a vocal consort)
This short service of Holy Communion with hymns, a sermon, and a small choir, lasts about 45 minutes and is followed by breakfast in Room D1. All those accustomed to receiving communion in their own churches are welcome to do so in the College Chapel.
6pm – Choral Evensong (sung by men and women)
The address at this service is generally given by a guest speaker, whom you may meet over drinks in the Prioress’s Room afterwards before dinner. Details of the Sunday Evening Addresses can be found on the Chapel Card.
Weekday services are held daily during term time at the following times:
9am – Monday-Friday
15 minute spoken service, with Bible readings and prayers.
12.30pm – Wednesday
A very brief spoken service of mindfulness and prayer.
6.30pm – Tuesday (sung by men and women), Thursday, and Saturday (sung by men and boys)
45 minute traditional service of music, readings, and prayers, with a world class choir.
Weddings in the College Chapel require a special licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury. It's normally only possible for current staff, students, Fellows of the College community, or alumni to get married in the Chapel.
If you're interested in getting married in the Chapel you'll need to discuss your plans with one of the College Clergy, to help determine whether you should apply for a special licence. Please note that permission to be married in Chapel is granted separately from permission to use other facilities such as catering or room hire.
Baptisms and confirmations
Baptisms (also known as 'christenings') and confirmations are usually only possible for current students, staff members, and Fellows of the College community or their families.
You can book the Chapel for other functions, depending on the availability of the building and suitability of the purpose. Booking charges may apply. Please contact the Dean of Chapel, the Rev'd Paul Dominiak, on firstname.lastname@example.org to make an enquiry.
