Henry Seymour Skinner, Private, London Regiment (London Scottish)

Henry Seymour Skinner came up to Jesus College in Easter term 1915.

Born: Petworth, Sussex on 2 July 1895

Died of wounds received in action: 13 September 1916

H.S. SkinnerHenry stayed for the term before enlisting, possibly doing an Agriculture Diploma (Examinations Book, Jesus College). His late grandfather, George, had been a Fellow and Tutor of the College from 1818-1842. (Alumni Cantabrigiensis by J.A. Venn.)

His mother sent the photograph above to the Master along with a short letter saying that it was taken by his sister just two days before he went to France and that it was “quite the best one I ever have had”.

She continues to thank the Master for his letter and sympathy but ends her letter by saying “It seems hard to think I shall never see him again in this life”.
