Fellow Commoner Dr Preti Taneja has won the Eastern Eye Award for Literature for her debut novel, We That Are Young (Galley Beggar Press, 2017).

The Arts, Culture and Theatre Awards (ACTAs) winners were revealed at a gala night in London on 21 June. The ACTAs celebrate diverse talent in the arts and entertainment, with categories spanning a wide range of disciplines and showcasing a world of talent.

Dr Taneja said: "Eastern Eye is a hugely important pillar of British life. I was delighted to be shortlisted in such a strong field and to receive this recognition from the judges for We That Are Young."

Set in modern India, We That Are Young is a retelling of King Lear, detailing the brutal power struggles which spring from the resignation of a patriarch from his vast corporation and subsequent handing over of control to his three daughters.
