New book celebrates thirty years of art

Travel through three decades of art at Jesus College in a new photo-led book, Thirty Years of Contemporary Art, Jesus College, Cambridge, 1988 – 2018, available now in our online shop.

Compiled by Emeritus Fellows Professor Jean Bacon and Dr Jim Roseblade, this 80-page book will be enjoyed by everyone with an interest in the visual arts, charting what has been achieved in Jesus College since Veronica Ryan was hosted by the College during her time as Kettle’s Yard Arts Council Fellow in 1987-88.

The majority of the book records fifteen Sculpture in the Close exhibitions, with numerous photographs of the works of art and some of the 75 distinguished artists who took part.

Priced at £12 plus postage and packaging, copies can be bought at the Porters’ Lodge in College or at our online shop.

The period of time covered by the book is reflected by the introduction and foreword; the former written by Lord Renfrew, Master of Jesus College in 1988; the latter by Professor Ian White, current Master.

In her remarks at the end of the book, Professor Bacon says: “We hope the book is a worthy tribute to all the artists who loaned their work for the exhibitions and that it shows the rich contribution made by sculpture to the life of the College”.

The book also contains a chronological record of art activity in College during the thirty years and an illustrated section about our permanent sculpture collection.
