Jesus students selected for 2022 Reserve Boat Race

Congratulations to Jesus students Elena von Mueller (2019), Jenna Armstrong (2020) and Seb Benzecry (2020) who will take on Oxford in the Reserve Boat Race.

Three Jesus students have been selected for the Reserve Boats for The Gemini Boat Race 2022 which takes place on Sunday (3 April).

Jenna Armstrong and Elena von Mueller will row in the Cambridge Women’s Reserve Boat Blondie. Engineering undergraduate Elena, is one of just two returning rowers in the Cambridge crew, having last year rowed in the Cambridge women’s reserve boat that beat Oxford’s Osiris by seven lengths.

Meanwhile PhD student Sebastian Benzecry who was in the winning men’s boat in the Boat Race last year, will race in the men’s reserve boat Goldie.

Jonathan Conder, Head Coach and Manager of Jesus College Boat Club, said: "I would congratulate all the Jesus rowers on their fantastic achievement in being selected to race against Oxford and wish them every success."

It was a clean sweep for all four Light Blue crews last year, with both Cambridge crews victorious in the Race which took place on native waters near Ely, and without spectators due to COVID-19.

Cambridge have won the past four women's races and the past three men's. They will hoping for continued success this year as the race returns to its traditional course on the Thames, between Putney and Mortlake.

Overall, Cambridge men lead Oxford by 84 wins to 80, and Cambridge women lead Oxford 45 to 30.
