Jesus student on Festival of Ideas event panel

A Jesus College student is taking part in a livestreamed Cambridge Festival of Ideas panel event tomorrow (27 October).

Oreoluwa Ogunbiyi, a politics and international relations undergraduate and President of the Cambridge University African Caribbean Society, is one of the panel speakers at Encountering Brexit - Perspectives and Challenges - the 2017 MML Faculty and Schröder Lecture.

Oreoluwa says: "Professor Sarah Colvin reached out to me in June, keen to have a student perspective on 'Brexit', particularly with a focus on diversity and inclusion. As President of the Cambridge ACS, I've been invited to talk a bit about what diversity might mean in a Brexit context, particularly interrogating racist discourse around the referendum and expanding on the ever-changing notion of what it means to be 'British'. I urge everyone to tune into the livestream for what promises to be an invigorating discussion surrounding a wide range of issues attached to a changing 'Brexit' context.

The event will be chaired by Baroness Garden of Frognal. Other panel members at tomorrow's event are:

  • David Champion, Harvard Business Review
  • Hans Kundnani, Senior Transatlantic Fellow, German Marshall Fund
  • Robert Wintemute, Professor of Human Rights Law, King’s College London
  • Margret Wintermantel, President, German Academic Exchange Service
