Jesus College Choir tops Specialist Classical Chart with new album Out of Darkness

The Choir of Jesus College Cambridge has topped the charts with their unique take on the broad span of Church seasons from Lent to Trinity.

Their new album Out of Darkness was released on February 9th and soared to the top of the Specialist Classical Chart, where it remains in the top five. Directed by internationally renowned organist Mark Williams, this album is the companion to their critically acclaimed 2012 release, Journey into Light.

Out of Darkness takes a different approach to the classic darkness-to-light format. It includes a brief, poignant Breathe on me, Breath of God by the American composer Ned Rorem and an ecstatic O vos omnes by Pablo Casals. It also includes classics such as If ye love me by Thomas Tallis and I saw the Lord by John Stainer.

Assistant Organist Ben Morris said: "It is an amazing feeling to see our album at number one. It is quite different to other albums that cover this period, so we're hoping that it might stay in the charts until Easter".

People in Cambridge and further afield can hear the Choir live in regular concerts and services in Jesus College's ancient and beautiful Chapel.
