Jesuan trio selected for 2019 Boat Race

Congratulations to Jesuans Kate Horvat (2018), Hugh Spaughton (2017) and Charlotte Jackson (2012) who have been selected to row in Cambridge University Women's Boat Club crews at the 2019 Boat Race on Sunday 7th April.

Selected for the Blues Boat are Kate, studying for an MPhil in Planning, Growth and Regeneration, and Hugh, a second year undergraduate reading Natural Sciences. Kate will take up seat five and Hugh coxing duties. Both will be working hard with the rest of the crew to retain the title and clinch a 44th win for the Light Blues.

"I am honoured to have been selected for this year's boat race crew form a pool of very competitive athletes and am thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in such a historic race."

Joining the Blondie Reserve crew is graduate student Charlotte Jackson, studying for a PhD in Earth Sciences. Charlotte takes the Bow seat and will be hoping to recreate last year's reserve race victory for Blondie and secure a 23rd win.

Speaking after the selection announcements, Kate exclaimed: "I am honoured to have been selected for this year's boat race crew form a pool of very competitive athletes and am thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in such a historic race."

Hugh said: "It's a great honour to have been selected to race. It's something I've seen as a goal for many years now and for it to finally be realised is incredibly exciting. I consider myself very fortunate!"

Charlotte added: "I am absolutely thrilled to have been selected for Blondie. I've had this in my sights for over a year, whilst rowing with Jesus, and now all the hard work has paid off! I'm really excited to race Osiris on April 7th!"

We wish Kate, Hugh, Charlotte and their crewmates every success, and will be cheering along each Cambridge crew on the day. Find out more about the 2019 Boat race on the official website.
