Jesuan elevated to Supreme Court in Pakistan

Our congratulations to Jesuan Law graduate, Honourable Mr Justice Yahya Afridi (1989), on being elevated to the office of Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Honourable Mr Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Chief Justice of Pakistan, administered the oath at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad, in a simple but dignified ceremony on 28 June.

The ceremony was attended by Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Attorney General for Pakistan, the Advocate General of Islamabad, senior lawyers, law officers, officers of the Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan and the Federal Judicial Academy Islamabad. Mr Arbab Muhammad Arif, Registrar of the Supreme Court conducted the proceedings.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is the highest appellate court of the country and is the final arbiter of the law and the country's Constitution. Its orders and decisions are binding on all other courts in the country.

Justice Afridi worked in both solicitors firms and goverment posts from 1990 until 2012. He was elevated to the bench in 2010 and confirmed as a Permanent Judge of the Peshawar High Court in 2012, going on to take the oath as Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court in December 2016. In his new appointment, he becomes one of 17 Justices of the Supreme Court.
