Choir performs UK premiere of sacred choral piece

The UK premiere of Caroline Shaw’s and the swallow will be performed by the College Choir in Chapel this Sunday 7 October.

Caroline Shaw is a US-based musician who performs in solo and collaborative projects. She was the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013 for Partita for 8 Voices, written for the Grammy-winning Roomful of Teeth, of which she is a member.

Director of Music Richard Pinel said: “I’m always looking for new and interesting pieces to perform with the choirs and I first learned about Caroline Shaw when she was commissioned by the Britten Sinfonia in 2018.

“It turns out that she has only composed one piece of sacred choral music, and the swallow. Her fresh and unique sound-world complements the warm acoustic of Jesus College Chapel. We are very excited to have the opportunity to give the UK premiere of this beautiful piece."

The event is unticketed and free to attend. Please arrive at Jesus College Chapel, CB5 8BL, at 5.45pm on Sunday. If you have any accessibility requirements, please email chapel@jesus.cam.ac.uk.
