Giving
Why Give to Jesus?
Whether through our world-class education, the unique experience of life at Jesus, or the impact of our research, our College changes lives. Perhaps we changed yours.
We rely on the support of generous individuals to continue our work, and to ensure that what makes Jesus College a special place to live, work, and study is preserved for future generations.
Donations are used immediately to meet the College’s most important priorities, such as providing financial assistance to students, funding teaching and research, and providing quality facilities for our students and Fellows.

Make a Capital Gift
A capital gift is usually earmarked for a specific project, such as a building, or to endow a fellowship, studentship or bursary in perpetuity. Capital gifts most often take the form of cash, but they may also include gifts of shares or property. Capital gifts can also be made over a period of several years.
To enquire about making a capital gift to the College, please contact the Director of Development and Alumni Relations by emailing development@jesus.cam.ac.uk.
Leave a Legacy
Legacy gifts give the opportunity for future generations of students to benefit from the educational and life-enhancing opportunities provided by the College, and we're extremely grateful to those who have chosen to remember Jesus College in their Will.
Legacies can be used to support any aspect of the College including studentships and bursaries, fellowships, the library, and buildings and projects. However, most legacies are left to the general purposes of the College and are added to our permanent capital. This is invested to provide long term income. Those who have included the College in their Will are invited to join the 1496 Society.
If you'd like to discuss leaving the College a legacy in your Will, please contact the Director of Development and Alumni Relations by emailing development@jesus.cam.ac.uk.
Make a Gift of Stocks and Shares
We welcome gifts of listed shares and securities. Donations of shares and investments have become one of the most tax-efficient ways of giving.
All donations of publicly quoted shares and certain other investments by individuals and companies receive income tax relief at 100% of their market value. In addition to the income tax savings, donors making gifts of shares will not attract any capital gains tax liability. For further information please contact the Development and Alumni Relations Office.
Use Payroll Giving
Under the Payroll Giving Scheme, employees can authorise their employer to deduct charitable donations from their gross pay before calculating Pay As You Earn tax. This means that the employee automatically gets tax relief on donations at his or her top rate of tax. There is no limit on the amount that can be given under the scheme.
To find out more about Payroll Giving and whether your company operates the scheme, please contact your Human Resources or Personnel department.
Corporate Matched Giving
Some companies will match donations their employees make to charities. Your Human Resources or Personnel department will be able to tell you whether your company operates a matched giving scheme.
Gift Aid
If you're a UK taxpayer, every £10 you donate is worth £12.50 to Jesus College: the difference is paid to us by HMRC (at no extra cost to you) under the Gift Aid scheme. Higher rate taxpayers can reclaim £25 on every £100 donated, while additional rate taxpayers will receive £31.25 in their annual self-assessment tax returns. This assumes a basic tax rate of 20 per cent, a higher rate of 40 per cent, and an additional rate of 45 per cent.
Telephone Campaigns
Our annual Telephone Campaigns form a vital part of our development work, raising over £3.75 million since 2001. They also give us a valuable opportunity to link current students with alumni.
Each September, a team of Jesus College students get in touch with our alumni. Students talk to our alumni about the College’s latest news and events, keeping them in touch with life at the College, exchanging career and life stories, and discussing ways in which they can help safeguard everything we have to offer for current and future generations. You can read more about our Telephone Campaigns here.
