Choral Scholarships at all Cambridge colleges are awarded after candidates have received an academic offer to study at the University. Academic interviews normally take place in December and auditions for Choral Awards take place between the end of January and the end of March (the date will be advertised widely to academic offer-holders). Those elected to Choral Scholarships at Jesus College are expected to commit fully to the Choir. Choral Scholars enjoy a busy and varied schedule, including concerts, recordings and broadcasts. Foreign tours are fully subsidised, as are singing lessons, and other benefits include subsidised meals for each service sung, participation in College Feasts and many parties!
Those considering making an application to Jesus College who may be interested in a Choral Award are welcome to sing to the Director of Music, Mr Mark Williams, informally. This is by no means essential but may prove useful to prospective candidates who wish to know more about the nature of the commitment and the level of vocal and musical aptitude required. Mr Williams is happy to meet potential applicants (who are also welcome to attend rehearsals and/or services) at any time between the end of January and the beginning of October. Please contact the Choir Administrator on choir@jesus.cam.ac.uk or 01223 339699 to arrange a visit.
Occasionally, vacancies occur for singers who are not members of the College, and volunteers from other Colleges make a valuable contribution to the life of the Choir whilst enjoying the opportunity to belong to a second college community. Auditions for such places are also arranged through the Choir Administrator.
Further information about the Choral Awards process may be found in the University Undergraduate Admissions Prospectus.
